Picking a destination based on a hotel resonates with me, in a way! I am not taking my 1 and 4 year old to luxury hotels at the moment, but having the ~right~ accommodation is absolutely a driving factor in travel planning for my little family! These days it is more often an apartment or home rental, but being able to have solid, comfortable sleeping arrangements, kitchen/laundry, walkable location with grocery amenities & activities, and safe outdoor space (preferably with a view, to enjoy for apéro or after bedtime) go a LONG way to making travelling with little people feel as much like a vacation as it can! I recently found an Airbnb in Menton, France that checked all the boxes and it felt like all the family vacation puzzle pieces falling into place.
Absolutely! I'm on team hotel for the moment because I'm the one in my family that does all the dishes, and I just don't want to do any when I'm on "vacation." But I agree that the more it feels like a home, the better. If you're willing to share the Airbnb link, I'd love to look at it - I'm in the process of drafting a piece on how to choose a toddler-friendly home rental, so it's super top of mind!
Stairs are also a consideration, as we are travelling with two strollers, although for this view in Paris (and at this price!) we are willing to brave the six floor walk up!!
In my experience, having a crib or high chair in the listing is not a deal breaker - often, if you just ask, hosts are willing to find those things especially for you. (Also a playpen is a free checked item with most airlines, if you are really in a pinch!)
